I remember him as a generous man, one who had a sharp eye and a keen interest in scholarship and the academic world. A great connosoisseur , in a time -honoured way. He was inquisitive, smart and often provocative in the way that he questioned scholarship.

He shared his insights and expertise with “gusto”, and he was both witty and colourful in how he spoke about the antiquarian world. He embraced friendship and was an excellent host.

A dear freind is gone. His mempry is deeply cherished.
